Summary
The Vice President of Revenue Cycle (VPRC) is a senior executive leader responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, optimization and financial integrity of Baylor College of Medicine’s end-to-end revenue cycle. This role provides oversight for all revenue cycle functions related to insurance verification, authorization, coding, charge capture, billing and collections, denial management, third-party payor plan performance, and revenue integrity across the Baylor Medicine adult multi-specialty practice, and Baylor’s affiliated clinical enterprises. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the VPRC partners closely with clinical leadership, compliance, information technology, and operational stakeholders to optimize net patient service revenue, improve cash flow, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the patient financial experience while supporting Baylor College of Medicine’s academic, research, and clinical missions.
Job Duties
Strategic Leadership
- Executes and aligns a comprehensive revenue cycle strategy aligned with the College’s clinical, operational and financial goals, and long-term growth plans.
- Serves as a key advisor to the SVP/CFO and executive leadership (i.e., EVP – Clinical Affairs, Baylor Medicine COO) for revenue cycle performance and optimization, payer trends, reimbursement risks, and financial opportunities.
- Leads (or co-leads) transformation initiatives to improve revenue cycle efficiency, scalability, and sustainability across a complex academic medical environment.
- Partners with Baylor Medicine clinical operations and the College’s finance leadership in the evaluation of new clinical business opportunities and/or expansion of services.
Revenue Cycle Operations
- Partners with Baylor Medicine clinical operations to provide oversight for insurance verification, financial clearance, and authorization processes.
- Leads efforts related to professional and global clinical charge coding, charge capture, and reconciliation activities.
- Provides oversight for the College’s professional and clinical services billing, claims submission, denials management, collections, and cash posting. (payment operations) in lieu of cash posting.
- Partners with Baylor Medicine clinical operations and Baylor departmental administration to ensure integration of consistent revenue cycle workflows and practices across Baylor’s adult multi-specialty practice(s) and affiliated clinical partners.
Financial Performance & Analytics
- Provides oversight for key revenue cycle performance indicators including net collections rate(s), days in accounts receivable, denial rates, and cost to collect.
- Leads the development, maintenance and promotion of monthly performance dashboards, departmental and service line reporting and analytics to support data-driven decision-making across all levels of the Baylor Medicine practice.
- Advocates for and leads (or co-leads) revenue integrity initiatives to improve revenue cycle efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensures the College’s compliance with all Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and payer-specific and/or State/Federal requirements.
- Partners with Compliance, Legal, and Internal Audit to mitigate revenue cycle risk.
- Actively promotes an environment of ethical and compliant billing practices and audit readiness.

Payer Strategy & Technology
- Partners with Baylor MedCare to support third-party payor contracting and/or payor performance through reimbursement modeling, data analytics and contract audits.
- Partners with IT to optimize EPIC EMR, including adoption and inclusion of emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and/or revenue cycle performance technologies.
- Leads (or co-leads) automation and system modernization initiatives.
Customer Service
- Provides oversight of patient facing revenue cycle customer service functions, including inquiry and complaint management, issue resolution, and service recovery.
- Ensures timely, compassionate, and effective responses to patient concerns related to billing, coverage, and financial responsibility.
- Serves as a trusted internal customer service partner to clinical departments, faculty, and medical group practice leadership by ensuring responsive support, clear communication, and effective issue resolution related to revenue cycle processes, performance, and policy.
- Promotes strong collaborative relationships and service oriented workflows that support clinical operations and organizational goals.
Talent & Culture
- Builds and mentors a high-performing revenue cycle leadership team.
- Promotes accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the revenue cycle ecosystem.
- Ensures effective staffing models, training, and succession planning.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Ten years of experience in revenue cycle, preferably in an academic medical center. Five or more years in a management capacity is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or similar).
- 10–15 years of progressive revenue cycle leadership experience, preferably in an academic medical center.
- Demonstrated success leading complex revenue cycle operations, with at least 5 years in a comparable revenue cycle leadership role.
- Proficiency in knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with faculty practice plans and multi-entity academic organizations.
- Epic or similar enterprise EHR experience.
- Professional certifications such as HFMA, CHFP, or CPC.
