College/Department Information
Located conveniently in Augusta's downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Nursing Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing, and the Director of Nursing, delivers restorative nursing care (as outlined by the Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Therapist) to assigned residents on the nursing units. The Restorative Tech is responsible for providing nursing restorative care to ensure residents maintain the highest possible physical wellbeing. A Restorative's attitude maximizes the resident's current abilities, minimizes the negative effects of the resident's disability and promotes some independence.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
ASSISTS RESIDENTS WITH TREATMENT: Assists residents in ambulating on unit with or without the use of assisted devices (walkers, canes, crutches, etc.). Practice good body mechanics while delivering nursing care to prevent injuries to self and others.
PERFORMS RESTORATIVE NURSING DUTIES: Performs Active Range of Motion (AROM) and Passive Range of Motion (PROM) in a safe manner to all residents as assigned according to plan of care. Perform individual and group exercise. Motivates residents to promote increased activity levels and maintain independence.
COMPLEMENT TRAINING WITH ADLS: Complement training in other activities of daily living, such as transferring from the wheelchair to the bed, toilet, vehicle, shower chair, or recliner. Instructing residents on the operation of wheelchair and some ADL's.
ASSIST WITH FALL REDUCTION MEASURES: Assist with positioning needs and fall reduction measures. Participates as a member of the Resident Care Team, Fall Risk Committee, and Fall Scene Investigation Team. Completes documentation in Point Click Care (PCC)
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND OBSERVATION/ASSESSMENT SKILLS: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and document residents' response to treatment. Observe reaction/response of residents during treatment and report any unusual reactions/response to Nurse Managers or Therapist. Cooperate with Licenses PT, PTA, OT, and OTA when providing restorative nursing care residents when appropriate.
PROFESSIONALISM AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: Maintains professionalism with residents, visitors, and employees. Always Promotes customer service.
CLEAN AND DISINFECT EQUIPMENT: Clean/disinfect any equipment used to include cushion covers, assistive devices, wheelchairs, etc. Adjusts and makes minor repairs to equipment.
REVIEWS ASSESSMENTS AND ATTENDS MEETINGS: Reads nursing and therapy assessment on each new resident admitted to restorative program and reassess after resident experiences a significant change. Attend restorative meetings and schedule fall risk meetings.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties as assigned. Assist with in-services and training as needed. Performs all duties and functions as listed in the Certified Nursing Assistant job description. Performs other related duties and assignments assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization with one year of experience in long-term care
Other Required Qualifications
Active Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Georgia and American Heart Association BLS with CPR certification
Required Experience
Experience in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and activity treatment, handling residents and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the care of geriatric residents, preferably long-term care
Experience in physical therapy or occupational therapy desired
Previous experience in Restorative Nursing
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Basic anatomy and nursing skills. Knowledgeable principles, methods and equipment used in PT, OT, Speech, and Functional Maintenance programs.
SKILLS
Interpersonal skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Will require memory of detail that will be beneficial when applying splints and assessing types of range of motion.
Certifications/License
Active Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Georgia and American Heart Association BLS with CPR certification

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
