The Philosophy Department seeks to hire a per-course faculty member to teach Philosophy 110, Philosophical Inquiry in Plato in the Spring of 2026.
Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:50am - 11:30pm
Course description
Study of Plato's Republic or of selected Platonic Dialogues with a view to such questions as: What is philosophy? What is the act of philosophical inquiry? What makes for a philosophical question, or for a philosophical answer?
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a Master's degree, and be ABD or have completed a Doctoral degree in either Philosophy or Theology. Candidates must also be familiar with the Thomastic tradition of Natural Law, and have experience teaching Plato, Aristotle, and Aquinas from primary rather than secondary texts. Candidates must also be educated in a program sympathetic to the Catholic Thomastic-Aristotelian philosophical tradition elaborated in John Paul II's Fides et Ratio.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
