Scientific Instrument Services Special Projects Coordinator (Temporary, Part Time)

Position Overview & Responsibilities
The Scientific Instrument Services (S.I.S.) department is seeking a highly organized and adaptable professional to serve as a temporary Special Projects Coordinator. This role is essential in supporting SIS through short-term initiatives, special assignments, and departmental projects that enhance the maintenance, repair, calibration, and installation of scientific and diagnostic instruments used in cutting-edge medical research. The coordinator will work closely with SIS leadership, technicians, vendors, and research staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, resourceful, and capable of balancing independent tasks with collaborative team efforts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with planning, coordinating, and executing departmental projects and initiatives in support of SIS operations.
  • Supporting SIS staff with documentation, scheduling, reporting, and project tracking.
  • Coordinating with vendors, suppliers, and service providers for equipment parts, supplies, and repair scheduling.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to special projects, including timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Preparing project-related communications, reports, and documentation for SIS leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Assisting in the development and improvement of processes and procedures to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Serving as a liaison between SIS staff, researchers, and other departments to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and experience
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, electronic equipment, processors, chips, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and a solid understanding of refrigeration theory of operation
  • Basic knowledge of operating computers and applicable computer software
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, the metric system, and their applications
  • Basic knowledge of scientific laboratory safety practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with scientific electronic equipment repair and maintenance, or vocational/technical training in electronics
  • EPA 608 Certification - Covering the handling, recovery and disposal of refrigerants
  • Experience with working in a health and/or science-based environment

Work Hours
  • Part-time position, 3-6 month duration, with hours scheduled between 8:30AM and 5:00PM.
