What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an Explosive Hazardous Materials Packaging Specialist.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Provide guidance for explosives, hazardous material, nuclear, and radiological materials management, shipping, storage, handling, and transportation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Defense, and Sandia National Laboratories requirements for on- and off-site explosive, hazardous materials, nuclear, and radiological material transportation activities.
- Perform receipts of all incoming explosives, complete splits, use EIS to perform transactions, and pre-inspect explosives prior to movement into Storage.
- Develop and maintain work instructions, and training materials for hazardous materials packaging operations.
- Customer support for Explosive and Radioactive material storage.
- Support Safety walkthroughs and Audits.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$85,100 - $164,100
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus five years or more of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and
experience.
- Experience in civilian or military explosive operations (Explosive Ordinance Disposal or similar job family) with demonstrated success in the technical management of explosive operations and facilities.
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance (or DOD equivalent) required to start
Qualifications We Desire:
- Training focused on explosive or weapons handling, use, storage and transportation or a graduate degree in a technical field related to explosives
- Experience with Sandia Computer Programs, Explosive Inventory System (EIS), Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), MS Office including Excel, and Oracle based applications
- Knowledgeable with lightning protection systems and response to system notifications
- Knowledge of DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations, International Air Traffic Association, Nuclear Federal Codes (10CFR), Office of Transportation Safeguards Operations, DOE/SNL explosive safety programs and requirements, and explosive ordinance disposal
- Knowledgeable on transportation, storage and handling of nuclear, radioactive material, weapon assemblies/subassemblies, and components
- Working knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices related to export and import controls.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and classified matter.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent customer service skills.

- Extensive knowledge focused on nuclear/radioactive materials and their by-products.
- Regulatory requirements for storage and transportation of radioactive materials to include nuclear criticality safety.

About Our Team:
Department 10261 oversees the Hazmat Specialists, Packaging Design Engineers and three programs to include HMPT, FMCSR and the UK for Sandia National Laboratories. Our Packaging Design Team provides specialized packaging processes, testing and development to include explosive, radiological, intellectual property (IP) and Mark Quality (MQ) parts. Our Hazmat Specialists provide specialized packaging and labeling of hazardous materials to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient packaging, handling, and transportation of hazardous materials to include both classified and unclassified material for both domestic and international destinations. Our FMCSR program Provides DOT compliance and oversight of Sandia¿s commercial fleet and commercial driving operations consisting of commercial drivers and commercial vehicles/equipment located in SNL/NM, SNL/CA, SNL/NV, and SNL/HI. Our HMPT program reviews corporate polices and internal processes/procedures; Transportation Safety Document for onsite transfers of hazardous materials; develop and implement processes for onsite packaging and transportation of hazardous materials at all Sandia sites including Authorization to Move (ATM) and Service Level Agreements (SLA). Our UK program provides logistical support for the 1958 United States/United Kingdom Mutual Defense Agreement (US/UK MDA) and serves as the centralized hub for all shipments between the US and UK within the parameters of the US-UK MDA.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
