College/Department Information
Established in 1829, the Medical College of Georgia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, or BMB, is an academic home to interdisciplinary translational research for disease detection, prevention, and treatment. We are delighted that you have decided to visit our department's website. Our mission also includes the education and mentoring of future researchers, physicians and physician-scientists and service to the AU and greater scientific community. The research mission is focused on inventing better diagnostics and newer targeted therapies for the benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, brain, breast, eye, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, and prostate. The research areas encompass biomarkers, chemoprevention, DNA damage and repair, drug resistance, the epigenome, immunotherapy, the microbiome, molecular signaling, natural products, protein modifications and targeted therapy. Our faculties are supported by major funding agencies, and the insight gained by their work has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Home to the Biochemistry and Cancer Biology Graduate Program, the BMB Department offers PhD degrees, along with a combined MD-PhD program available to medical students. The students move on to competitive careers in academia, industry, and governmental agencies. The education mission is also served by faculty participation in undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as the Student Educational Enrichment Program (SEEP).
Job Summary
This position will coordinate and perform all academic functions within the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department, including BMB Phase I, Medical School Course (200 students), and Biochemistry and Cancer Biology Graduate Studies Program (25 students). This position is also responsible for administrative support for the BMB department under direct supervision of the BCB Program Director and Department Administrator and responsible for administrative support in relation to the day-to-day operations of the program and department.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinates and all academic BMB Phase I Modules, Medical School course, (200 students) and in the Graduate School, Biochemistry and Cancer Biology Program (25 students) within the department. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the program, maintaining regulatory documentation of student records, managing the students in the BCB program and providing support to the Program Director. Coordination of documents required to ensure appropriate program landmarks are met. Interactions with Graduate School, Registrar and Program Director to comply with all PhD student training, registration, grade reporting and progress report deadlines in Banner. Manage and prepare reports and spreadsheets in student database. Attends, and keeps minutes for BCB Steering Committee Meetings for BCB Program.
Coordinates and assists in organizing seminar series for the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Schedules speakers through organizing all aspects of their visit such as travel and hotel reservations, setting up itineraries, making announcements, booking classrooms, coordinating lunches/dinners/refreshments. Processing all travel reimbursements for speakers.
Provides support to Faculty with grant proposals development and submission. Including, but not limited to routing budgets and proposals, preparation and organization of grant documents and forms, assembling proposals on various funding agencies' online platforms, coordinating grant submission between BMB Faculty and AURI officers.
Assist the Department Manager with tasks and transactions related to new position posting and hiring, serving as a liaison between the department and HR partners.
Assist the Department Manager with tasks and transactions related to recruitment and onboarding processing of international recruits and affiliates, serving as a liaison between the department and IPSO officers.
Perform other related duties as needed (e.g. Maintenance and update of departmental website, maintenance and update of department wall boards, support leadership and faculty with organization of events and projects, etc.).
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of professional or administrative experience to include a minimum of two years educational program experience or similar experience.
OR
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a State or Federal accrediting organization and a minimum of seven years professional or administrative experience to include four years of educational program experience or similar experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of educational program or similar experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make responsible and timely decisions.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Range: $20.29-$22.22 per hour.
Pay Band: B7
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
