Director, Sports Band

The Sports Band Director is responsible for leading, developing, and expanding the school's athletic band program in alignment with the athletic department's vision. This role encompasses musical direction, program administration, student recruitment, and performance coordination, aiming to foster a dynamic and inclusive band environment that enhances school spirit and community engagement. This is a Part-time position, working approximately 10 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Musical Leadership:
- Select, arrange, and rehearse musical pieces for performances at athletic events, ensuring high-quality presentations.
- Conduct all band rehearsals and lead performances during games and other school events.
- Collaborate with athletic department staff to synchronize band activities with sports schedules and themes.

- Program Development and Growth:
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit new members, aiming to grow the band beyond its current 30+ members.
- Establish relationships with feeder schools and community programs to create a pipeline for future band members.
- Organize outreach events, workshops, and performances to promote the band program within the community.

Administrative Duties:
- Manage the band's budget, including planning for equipment, uniforms, travel, and other expenses.
Student Development and Support:
- Provide mentorship and support to band members, fostering a positive and educational environment.
Education: REQUIRED: Bachelors Degree PREFERRED: Degree in Music or related
Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 2 plus
Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical) Plays at least one instrument; Ability to teach music; ability to lead band
Other Requirements: (e.g. travel, weekend/evening work) Must be able to work nights and weekends within the SMC class schedule as well as athletics schedule. Attendance at post season tournaments where band is included is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building relationships with feeder programs and community organizations for recruitment purposes.
- Background in arranging music suitable for athletic events and school spirit activities.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students, creating an inclusive and enthusiastic band culture.
Salary Description $20-$25 per hour. Maximum 10 Hours per week
